Description

Connects a CW paddle or straight key to the USB-C port of unmodified Quansheng UV-K1 v3 handhelds running the NR7Y CW firmware.

• USB-C plug on the radio end, 3.5mm TRS (stereo) plug on the key end
• works with straight keys and iambic paddles – configurable via the radio’s settings
• RF choked with a ferrite to reduce RFI
• about 11″ long tip-to-tip – short and flexible for portable operation

This cable requires the NR7Y CW firmware for UV-K1. It does not work with the original UV-K5 (v1), whose USB-C port is for charging only. The cable may be compatible with UV-K5 v3, but this is untested

Usage notes:

• Flash the NR7Y CW firmware built for UV-K1
• Plug the USB-C end into the radio and the 3.5mm plug into the key’s 3.5mm socket
• Set the radio to CW mode, then in the menu under CWkin select USB Port Iambic for a paddle or USB Port Handkey for a straight key
• If dit and dah come out swapped, select USB Port Iambic Reversed

⚠ While the radio is in CW mode with a USB Port input selected, its USB serial port does not work, so programming from CHIRP will fail. Switch out of CW mode or out of the USB Port input before programming.

⚠ The radio’s USB key input is sensitive to RF from its own transmitter, which can cause a stuck key-down or a wrong element. If the radio keeps transmitting, hold EXIT to stop it. Medium power and moving the antenna away from the radio with coax both help.

⚠ This is not a USB data, audio or charging cable – it is for Quansheng radios running the CW firmware only.
